Costumes and Props

We had to change the props we were going to use as some of the things that we tried turned out too hard to do. Joe is starring as the clown and he is wearing a very freaky clown costume. This is the one we ordered as this was the freakiest one we could find.

The clown will be carrying a balloon, which he will leave outside he woman's house. We are going to use a red balloon as red is associated with blood and danger, and this is also what the clown represents. I will be playing the part of the woman, for my costume I will be wearing white to show my innocence and to show that I'm not bringing harm to anyone in the film. We decided not to fill the balloon with blood as it would have been tricky to do as we needed to fill the balloon with helium also to make it float. Instead of using blood we came up with another idea to get Joe (the clown) to sneak up on the woman (played by me) with knife in his hand. The woman is going to be looking at the balloon confused, as she doesn't know why it is there, and then the clown comes up behind her and pops the balloon suddenly, then woman screams and turns around to see the clown standing there behind her. Were using a knife for when the woman (played by me) is washing up at the beginning, we will be doing a close up shot of the knife and are going to try reflect the light onto the knife to make it seem danerous and give a hint that something bad is goin to happen. We are also using red fairy liquid to represent blood when we are pouing it on the knife. There will be the props we will be using to create out horror film opening.

Analysis of Props

We analysed what props we could use in our horror film opening, and how we could make them look even more scary than usual. I analysed some of the props from the movie Scream and tried to see how they was made to look scarier than they would normally look.

The knife the girl picks up in the beginning of the movie
comes across scarier than usual because the light is
being shined onto it to emphasise how dangerous and
 sharp it is.

They have made the knife seem alot more scarier than
usual by putting fake blood all over it to make it obvious that
scream has killed someone before that and is going to kill
the people in the scene.

When the phone rings the take out all of the background
noise so you can just hear the phone ringing and it seems
more intense when she picks up the phone as you don't
know who it could be.

Font Analysis of a Title Sequence

http://www.artofthetitle.com/title/evil-dead/

I enjoyed watching the titles to evil dead as I thought they were very clever. I thought the title scene was very clever with the tree like shadows taking over the title scene. The opening titles include alot of blood this make you know straight away that that it is going to be a horror film. Towards the end of the opening titles pictures keep filckering really quickly, I think this is a really good effect to use as it makes you on edge as you think somethings going to pop up.They use red font in the title sequence, the colour red is usually associated with blood and danger and the font is quite bold so it stands out against the black bits of the background.

Font Analysis

I analysed different types of fonts I thought would be suitable to use in a horror film, and from this research I have started to produce a film title for our opening scene that I thought would suit the the plot of the film. I like these fonts cause they look really creepy and a bit distorted and that's what we were looking for for our opening titles. But in my opinion these fonts don't really suit the plot of our film as we wanted something that would fit in with our idea of having a clown as the killer. The font I like the most is the Tricky Treat Family font as it looks like a child has written it, and clowns are usually associated with children. We could have added sound affects to the font to make it sound like a child was writing 'dead funny' on a chalkboard. We could wouldve chosen the chalkboard sound as its a sound that makes people cringe and sends a shiver down thier spine, and thats what we want to achieve out of our film as people would be more drawn to watch it. In the end we didnt choose to use any of these fonts as we found a font what suited our movie a lot better. You will see our chosen fonts in one of my next blogs.

Nine Frame Analysis

Frame One
For this shot we filmed me walking towards the theatre, we could have improved this shot by improving my acting skills, and moving the camera so it was straight on instead of at an angle.

Frame Two
This shot included me opening the theatre door and walking into the theatre. This shot could have been better if we filmed my hand pulling the door open so it would have improved the match on action.

Frame Three
This shot was part of the match on action shot of me opening the theatre door and walking in the find Jess. I also think this shot would have been better if we put the camera straight on because after we edited the shots together they didn't go together very smoothly.

Frame Four
This shot was the shot of us zooming into Jess sitting on the theatre chairs alone, I think this shot could have been improved by doing the zoom slower as it doesn't zoom in very smoothly as its quite quick.

Frame Five
This was the shot of me walking up to Jess, this shot was okay but the editing didn't go very smoothly and we could have edited this shot in so it was smoother.

Frame Six and Seven
The shots of me and Jess talking were very awkward in my opinion, the acting was very unrealistic and could have been done alot better. However, we successfully included the 180 degree rule in these two shots and I think it turned out okay, its just that the acting was very fake and the shots were cut off really quickly.

Frame Eight
The shot of Jess running down the theatre stairs didn't turn out very well because as Jess ran down the stairs it moved the camera and made the camera shake a little bit. We should have moved the camera into a more stable place so it wasn't as unstable and shaky.

Frame Nine
This shot was good, but it ended very quickly so I think we should have filmed it for longer and edited it better so it was more effective.
